People to love

I’ve been musing over how much of Cally, Charlie, and Billy’s quest is to find the place and people where they can feel safe. Where they can feel at home. A family to belong to.

Really? Cally, sure. In Treasure Hunt 1904 she struggled to overcome her sense of not belonging. Billy, of course. Without his father and breaking his “non”-relationship with his negligent mother, he thinks he has no one. But Charlie? He seems to have an amazing family.

True. But in Book 3 he marries Laoise, passionately in love and optimistic about their future together. He never imagines the landmines they will have to walk through or the deep disappointment and sadness he and Laoise will face. So, yes. Charlie, too.
